This article explains how users can permanently delete their profile on nebenan.de, depending on the device (Web, Android, iOS). The deletion is irreversible. Phone numbers are stored in a hashed form for security reasons. Legal retention periods of one year are observed. A written cancellation is not necessary. Users are advised to exchange alternative contact options with neighbors.

First, select your device:
If your profile is not yet activated or you do not yet have access to your neighborhood, please see the article My profile is not yet activated, but I want to delete it.
Please note: Deleting your account is permanent and cannot be undone.
If you verified yourself by SMS during registration, we store a cryptographically “hashed” version of the phone number associated with your profile for security reasons. This measure is solely intended to prevent abuse, such as multiple registrations, and to protect the integrity of our platform. The hash value is irreversible and does not allow reconstruction of your original phone number. We base this procedure on our legitimate interests according to Art. 6 para. 1 sentence 1 lit. f GDPR to protect and ensure the IT security of our platform.
As far as we store personal data beyond this due to legal retention obligations, we have restricted access to this data to a minimum (“blocking”). The storage is exclusively for the purpose of fulfilling legal retention periods, especially considering the provisions of Arts. 10 and 18 of the Digital Services Act (“DSA”). These retention periods require us to keep the data for a period of one year after receipt of the deletion request. We do not process the data beyond this storage. After the legal retention periods expire, we will delete your data immediately and without being asked.

A written cancellation of your membership is not necessary.
If you only used nebenan.de via the app, simply deleting the app is not enough; you must delete your profile as described below to truly end your membership.
Tip: It’s best to exchange alternative contact options with neighbors you want to stay in touch with.
For our Web version:
Click your name at the top and select the menu item “Your Settings” and then “Your User Account.” Scroll down on the page and click “Permanently delete account.” You will be prompted to enter your password, after which your user account will be permanently deleted.
For our Android app:
In your app, tap the three lines at the bottom right of the screen and then the gear icon at the top right. Next, select “Your User Account.”
Then tap the “Delete User Account” button. You will be prompted to enter your password, after which your user account will be permanently deleted.
For our iOS app:
In your app, tap the three lines at the bottom right of the screen and then the gear icon at the top right. Next, select “Your User Account.”
Then tap the “Permanently delete profile” button. You will be prompted to enter your password, after which your user account will be permanently deleted.
