The platform nebenan.de only activates neighborhoods once a certain number of verified users is reached. Currently, the activation process is being revised, which is why no new neighborhoods can be opened temporarily. Users are encouraged to seek local collaborations with municipalities or businesses to attract more participants and strengthen the community.
Experience from over 7,000 active neighborhoods shows: The more neighbors involved, the livelier the exchange. This way, the platform provides you with the desired added value.

Until now, we have activated neighborhoods upon request once 100 registered people were reached.
We are currently revising this process to create opportunities for even more people to use nebenan.de – especially in rural or less densely populated areas.
To ensure these changes run smoothly, we temporarily cannot open new neighborhoods. (Status as of April 2025)
You can be sure that we will open your neighborhood soon. As soon as this happens, we will inform you, provided you have already registered successfully.

Here are some things you can do in the meantime to help your neighborhood quickly gain many participants:
- Ask your municipal administration for cooperation. This has already worked successfully in several communities. This way, you can invite your neighbors locally to nebenan.de, for example, through the community newsletter or a distribution campaign of invitations financially supported by the municipality. - Become active yourself and find local supporters who can finance the printing of invitations. For example, the local savings bank or a long-established local business that wants to support the area.
