Blocking neighbors prevents blocked individuals from seeing or finding the profile, posts, comments, or private messages of the user who blocked them. The function works both ways and enables digital distance. However, in groups, users who block others remain visible as moderators. Blocks can be lifted in the settings, both in the web version and in the apps.
Blocking neighbors is a feature that allows users to block certain neighbors in their neighborhood and surroundings.
When one user blocks another user, this has various effects to minimize interactions between the two users and to create a form of digital separation.
What happens when I block a neighbor?
Blocked neighbors can:
- not access the profile page of the blocking neighbor. All information and activities of the blocking neighbor are not visible to the blocked neighbor.
- not find the blocking neighbor in the neighborhood search.
- not see content from blocking users on the homepage. Posts and comments from blocking users are not visible to the blocked user.
- not find the blocked neighbor in the reaction list when they react to a post or comment.
- not send private messages to the blocking neighbor and cannot see any previous conversations.
Note: The effects of the block function are identical for both blocked and blocking neighbors.
Be aware that if you have blocked a neighbor and at the same time are a moderator in a group, you will still be visible to the blocked neighbor in the list of moderators. If you want to ensure that blocked neighbors cannot find you in the list, you can relinquish your status as a moderator.
If you are a member of a group where the blocked neighbor is a moderator, that person cannot see you.
How do I block a person?
First, select your device:
For the web version:
Click on the person's profile picture to open their profile. First, click on the three dots on the right and select "Block person."
You can find the list of neighbors you have blocked under "Your Settings" -> "Hidden Content." There you can remove the block.
For the apps:
Click on the person's profile picture to open their profile. First, click on the three dots at the top right of the screen and select "Block profile."
You can find the list of neighbors you have blocked under "More" -> "Settings & More" -> "Your Settings" -> "Blocked Contacts and Content." Here you can remove the block.
