Whether it's Doppelkopf, Settlers of Catan, or Yahtzee: Old card or board games often sit unused in a corner gathering dust. With a game night, you can not only take your classic games out of the closet again but also get to know your neighbors better in a relaxed setting.
How to organize your game night:
-
Invite your neighbors
- Create an event in your neighborhood on nebenan.de. You can learn how to do this here.
- You can also create a post first to see if there is any interest, and then create an event when you’re ready.
- Adding a photo to the event will attract even more neighbors’ attention.
- Suggest a few games and ask what your neighbors would like to play. At the start, short and original games are recommended so everyone can easily join in. You can also coordinate who brings which game.
-
Once you have agreed on a game, you can look up the rules online, for example, to send them to neighbors who don’t know the game yet.
-
Find a suitable location
- Once you have an idea of how many neighbors want to come to your game night, you can think about a suitable place. If it’s just a small group, your home might be enough. Otherwise, some pubs allow you to bring games and play there.
- Provide drinks
-
Make sure there is enough space at the location.
-
Let’s get started: The game night can begin!
- Especially if you don’t all know each other yet, a round of introductions at the start is a great idea.
-
Go over the rules quickly one more time to avoid misunderstandings.
-
Share how great it was:
- Tell others in your neighborhood about the gathering by creating a post with photos. This way, even more neighbors will likely join next time.
