Our golden rules apply for neighborly interaction on nebenan.de. They work like the good old house rules: When everyone follows them, everyone is happy.

Be kind!

Remember that there is a person on the other end. They are the one you are communicating with. Communicate only as you would in an encounter with a neighbor offline.

• Be tolerant and respect that other people have different opinions, even if you do not share them. They might even encourage a more in-depth discussion of a topic.
• Assume good intentions and do not immediately assume the worst. First, consider how a particular statement might have come about and what role you might have played in it.
• Try not to dominate every conversation.
• Say thank you when a post was helpful or informative to you.

Be honest!

On nebenan.de, you act with your real name. Register as an individual and preferably upload a profile picture of yourself. You surely want to know who you are dealing with as well.

• Be honest about your personal information.
• Be reliable when concluding purchase or exchange transactions.
• Keep your commitments to events or cancel promptly if you cannot make it.

Be helpful!

There are many ways you can help your neighbors – offer it. Answer questions directed to you and participate in exchanges when it serves the well-being of the neighborhood.

• Answer your neighbors’ questions if you can.
• Offer your help when your neighbors need it.
• Discuss neighborhood-related topics with your neighbors.
• Share information about events in your neighborhood and invite your neighbors.
• Share useful items with your neighbors, give away things you no longer need, or sell sorted items at a fair price.
• Create specific groups on neighborhood-relevant topics and invite your neighbors.
